On a Friday in January 1999, 3.5 million shares of a graphics chip company changed hands in public for the first time, under the symbol NVDA. The company raised $42 million. An Aquarius that builds the chips the future runs on is almost too neat. Aquarius is the sign astrologers hand to inventors, networks and technology, and here is a company whose product is, more or less, the capacity to calculate things nobody has calculated yet. Saturn, the old ruler, rewards a long, grinding build. Uranus, the modern one, rewards a sudden leap. The chart has room for both, and so has the story.

Where it faceplants
